Mantis World is supporting SHIELD bring PPE to the frontline – can you help?

SHIELD is a cooperative of thirteen initiatives (and growing), all with a single objective:  To deliver emergency PPE into the hands of the health workers who need it right now.

SHIELD is where collaboration, innovation and execution come together to create, manufacture and supply PPE to healthcare workers, in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis.  Our campaigns are united, addressing shortages of PPE wherever they arise in the UK and providing healthcare workers with the vital PPE they require to do their job safely, right now.  SHIELD brings the very best of experience and a can-do culture into one place. We are finding effective, efficient and buildable solutions to the very real and rapidly emerging PPE problems today.

SHIELD is 3D printing, Injection Moulding, Textiles, and much more.  Campaigners, Innovators, Doctors, Creative Experts, Thought Leaders, Engineers, Entrepreneurs and Architects - all supporting the national efforts.

The SHIELD teams are proceeding at a breathless pace in the following areas to address the PPE shortages on both a short-term and more sustainable basis: 

1. Gowns Textile Stream:

The team of innovators and designers is moving from ideation into prototyping, supported by an open innovation ecosystem in which medics play a central role.

Right now, our short term needs are for:

  • Fluid-impervious materials (both textile and non-woven) available on a donate or highly subsidised price basis

  • Mentors to walk new products through the regulatory approval process, perhaps using test laboratories in EU27 countries where Covid-19 has subsided

2. Scrubs Stream:

We’re looking for:

  • Small factories able to produce a mass of quality sewn scrubs

  • Fabric donations:

    • Polycotton, approx 145gm 65% cotton and 35% polyester

    • Non woven waterproof textiles

  • Fabric cutting facilities: can you cut our patterns if we provide the materials?

  • Fabric manufacture facilities: can you make the scrubs for us?

We are also looking for donations of 100% cotton in green, royal, pink and red at 135gm weight for other gowns.
